Cross serve as a memorial
There is nothing remarkable about the looks of this wooden cross. In fact, the cross is made of old wood, or maybe it has aged since the time it was left on the hill of crosses by its owner in 1996.
However, the pilgrim who left this cross had his whole heart and soul when the cross was made and brought to the area to serve as a memorial.
Pilgrims have flocked to the hill of crosses after the uprising against the Russian czar who invaded Lithuania. There seems to be no specific agency or organization maintaining the hill but surprisingly, the number of crosses left in the area has increased to more than a hundred thousand crosses since 2006.
