Wooden Cross on the Hill
If you have not been to the hill of crosses then this photo will give you a pretty good idea of just how many crosses have been placed on the hill by pilgrims who travelled from their own cities and countries to Lithuania.
The hill may be far from their locations but their faith has led them to this solemn place.
This wooden cross, which was left by a Polish traveler, is surrounded by other wooden cross, silver cross and gold cross in different sizes and conditions. All of these were left behind by travelers and pilgrims who intentionally visited the hill to say their prayers for the departed and for the living. People started leaving crosses on the hill in 1831 after the uprising.
