Polish Pilgrims

Pilgrims started leaving crosses of all kinds at the hills of crosses after the uprising in 1831. In time, not only crosses were left on the hills but also statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary, huge crucifixes, carvings of patriots and even effigies.

As of 2006, there are probably around 100,000 crosses on the hills. A Polish pilgrim has left behind not only this chrystian cross but a lot of memories also came with the wooden cross.

The cross is made of simple wooden material but it stands firm on the ground. A small blue rosary containing the image of the Virgin Mary was left hanging on the cross, a sign of the pilgrim’s faith not only to Jesus but to his mother. Find more: Cross Image, Cross fro Lord
